Beginning with hill tribes as far back as 753 BC the city of Rome grew and prospered. As it grew it evolved from Kingdom to Republic to Empire and then fell in the 6th Century AD. The Senators, Emperors, Generals and soldiers of this thriving city spanned much of the civilized world and made the Mediterranean sea 'their own ocean'.
